Welcome to the 2012 Golf Season at Kawartha Golf & Country Club. This package will outline important information for you as a Junior Member, so be sure to read through it carefully and share it with your parents.

We are YOUR professional staff and are here to assist you. If you have any questions, please come and see us in the Pro Shop. We look forward to another great golf season at Kawartha!
It is your responsibility to know when you are allowed on the golf course. The board of directors enforces this. Keep these times in mind when you are putting in for a tee time on our tee time reservation system. To book a tee time or check on a tee time please go to our web site www.kawarthagolf.ca and log in with your user id and password which will be issued by the office.
Junior Members (age 16-18)
Monday to Friday: Full Playing Privileges
Saturday, Sunday, and Holidays: After 1:30pm
Juvenile Members (age 10-15)
Monday to Friday: Before 4:30 and after 6:00 with an adult or the starter’s permission.
Saturday, Sunday, and Holidays: After 2:30pm or after 1:30pm with an adult
You may set up an account in the Pro Shop with your parents’ permission. There is a form enclosed if you and your parents would like to do so. It is up to your parents to decide the limitations of the account: i.e.: balls, tees, and gloves only, or whatever they think is appropriate. It is not necessary to do this, however, you may not charge anything unless this is done. If your parents are members, and they wish for you to sign on their account, please have them fill out the form indicating that it’s their account they wish you to use.
The Pro Shop is owned and operated by Mark Ahrens Golf Inc. The Pro Shop carries a large selection of junior merchandise and equipment, with prices that are the same or lower than Golf Town. We feel that we are very knowledgeable and can professionally fit all skill levels of junior golfers. If you don’t see something in our Pro Shop please let us know and we can special order that item in for you. We can order from any company and usually in less than 4 business days.
For your convenience, club storage is available
at an additionnal cost of $110 (taxes incl.).
Your clubs will be stored and cleaned after each round.
Every junior that participates in a junior event or a junior field day will receive some junior bucks. The more events the juniors play, the more junior bucks they will receive. At anytime during the summer they can be redeemed in the Pro Shop for merchandise.
If you are an existing Junior member at Kawartha and are interested in becoming a “Buddy” to new junior members to help them become more familiar with Kawartha and introduce them to other junior members, please see the Pro Shop staff and we will get you paired with a new member!
Junior Field Days are open to junior members, boys and girls, of any age and skill level. Each field day will begin with a free clinic from one of our PGA of Canada Professionals from 9:30 to 10:30. Afterwards the first tee will be reserved from 10:30 to 12:00 for juniors to go out and play the course. Field Days are designed for juniors to receive instruction on all aspects of the game as well as to have fun and meet new friends, which will improve their overall enjoyment of the game here at Kawartha. You must sign up in advance as these times fill quickly. Field Days will include:
Instruction on the Basic Fundamentals ( grip, stance, posture, ball position and alignment)
- Instruction on the different shot types ( putting, chipping, pitching, bunker play,irons and woods)
- Discussion on safety, proper golf course etiquette, fair play and honesty, rules of golf, score cards
- Handicap and the handicap computer, equipment and proper practice.
- Different contests and on course activities.
- Prizes will be awarded at every Field Day.
There is no cost for Field Days, just sign up each week in the Pro Shop. Don’t miss these great opportunities for great instruction and exciting games on the golf course. Dates for Junior Field Days are July 9th, 16th, 23rd, 30th, and August 13th, 20th, 27th.
To earn a spot on Team Kawartha you must
play in the Club Championships. The top 4 players in each age group
are eligible to compete for Team Kawartha.
Players MUST be available both days to play on the team.
Participting Clubs are: Peterborough, Dalewood, Oshawa , Wildfire and Kawartha
Junior Ryder Cup vs Peterborough Golf & CC
This fun event will take place in the month of August. More details to follow.
2012 Junior Golf Program, Schedule of Events
WATCH THE JUNIOR BOARDS LOCATED OUTSIDE THE PROSHOP FOR TOURNAMENT UPDATES, RESULTS, INFORMATION AND OTHER EXCITING EVENTS FOR JUNIORS.
JUNIOR INFO SESSION Sunday May 6th, 2012@ 1 pm on the range
- An afternoon that all new junior members must attend.
- The professional staff at Kawartha will go through an in-depth tour of the facilities, rules and expectations of all our junior members.
- Juniors will receive a schedule for the season, rules on when they can and cannot play, acceptable attire, information on club storage, signing privileges at the Pro-shop and clubhouse and any other important information that any junior needs to know.
- Parents are encouraged to attend.
JUNIOR OPENING DAY Sunday May 27th, 2012 (Tee times starting @ 12pm)
- $15.00 includes BBQ & Prizes.
- Scramble format.
- Dinner will be @ 5:30 with prize presentation to immediately follow dinner.
- Teams will be made through the Pro-shop making the teams as fair as possible.
- 9 Hole competition with the option to play more holes if time allows (i.e.) if you tee off at 12:00 you can still play 18 holes if you wish.
- This is the first time on the golf course for a lot of juniors; we try to make the day fun and enjoyable. It allows juniors to meet one another and hopefully make some friends for the summer.
CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP________Monday June 9th & Tuesday June 10th, 2012
$20.00 fee (includes Champions tent party & BBQ dinner on July 10th)
- Any junior may participate in his or her own age division.
- As of May 31st Novice 10 & 11, Bantam 12 & 13, Juvenile 14-16, Junior 17 & 18, Girls 13 and under, and Girls 14 and over.
- This is a stroke play competition and the rules of golf apply.
- Top 4 in each division will make Team Kawartha and get the opportunity to represent the club at the Junior City & District Championships.
- All juniors are encouraged to attend the Champions tent party & BBQ on July 11th at 5 pm.
PARENT/CHILD TOURNAMENT Sunday July 22, 2012 @ 1 pm
- $65 if both are members - $90 if a non-member is playing
- This event is quickly becoming a highlight of the year
- Holes 1-9 are select drives and alternate shots; Holes 10-18 are scramble format
- BBQ dinner and prizes following play
- Sign-up early as this event sells out every year
MIGHTY SPIKE CHAMPIONSHIP Monday July 16th, 2012 @ 10:30am
- $10.00 per player
- 9 hole stroke play competition using the rules of golf
- This event is open to all 1st year junior members between the ages of 10 and 11 and is designed to introduce this age group to competition
JUNIOR CLOSING DAY Sunday, August 26th, 2012 @ 12:00pm
- The final junior event for the season and you don’t want to miss this one!
- $20.00 entry fee includes dinner and lots of prizes.
- Team format with Closest to the pin and other fun competitions.
FAMILY NIGHT – KIDS AGED 9 & under Every Saturday & Sunday beginning at 6:30pm

- A great opportunity for members to bring out younger children or their grandchildren to play a few holes.
- Please play from the 200, 150 or 100 yard marker depending on skill level.
- Parents and Grandparents are asked to supervise and coach only, please do not play.
